Plans
After my very successful trip to Maryland with Geohashing, I have another good point today to extend my current consecutive streak. This looks like it's close to the 2017-02-06 expedition but not as far up and on the other side of the road. We'll head to Allegany after lunch and after getting the hash, we'll find a close geocache and hike around for a bit.
Expedition
Arriving in Allegany a little before 15:00, we found a place to park off the road by the hash. The dogs were very excited to be off as we started our short walk. On the way, I saw lots of Trout Lilies and a few were flowering. It was a simple expedition as we easily found the hash and got some pictures. However, the black flies were out in force and made things extremely annoying when stopping. Better keep moving then and I quickly set the GPS to locate the closest Geocache and we headed in that direction.
Getting to the bridge by the cache, I saw some Triliums in bloom and stopped to get a picture. The cache was a simple find and I recorded my name in the log as well as got a few more pictures for the Hash Collision. The black files continuing to be a bother, we made our way back to the car. However, since we walked less than a mile, I wanted to give the dogs more time to run around. We drove back to the Red House area and stopped at the Osgood trail; a somewhat steep 2.5 mile hike up to the top of the hill. Again, as long as we kept moving, the black flies were not bad and we spent the next hour or so hiking the loop.
Back at the car, we walked over to Red House Lake so the dogs could go for a quick swim and lose the mud they had collected on the hike. Much fun was had and we headed for home and dinner.
Note: the current consecutive streak ended here with nothing good the next day. Here is the link to the previous expedition.
