The summer solstice had nice weather in Seattle: sunny by afternoon, and about 70 degrees, which was refreshing after the preceding few days of temperatures in the 80s. I left work a bit later than planned and caught the next bus on route 2, which is a [[wikipedia:Trolleybus|trolleybus]] route that makes its way across Capitol Hill from downtown via Seneca St and East Union St. That bus suffered some sort of wiring issue halfway across, and the passengers transferred to the next bus behind. (This is where I wondered if it might have been simpler to take my bike for the day.) Eventually I was dropped off on Madrona Dr, just a few short blocks from the point.

Plans

Take a bus across town and back after work.

Expedition

The summer solstice had nice weather in Seattle: sunny by afternoon, and about 70 degrees, which was refreshing after the preceding few days of temperatures in the 80s. I left work a bit later than planned and caught the next bus on route 2, which is a trolleybus route that makes its way across Capitol Hill from downtown via Seneca St and East Union St. That bus suffered some sort of wiring issue halfway across, and the passengers transferred to the next bus behind. (This is where I wondered if it might have been simpler to take my bike for the day.) Eventually I was dropped off on Madrona Dr, just a few short blocks from the point.

This part of town is a fairly affluent hillside with views across Lake Washington, full of foliage and lovely older homes. Some of these had gates at the sidewalk, but today's destination only had signs warning of security monitoring.

Thanks to the tree cover, the point was within my GPS accuracy circle from the sidewalk out front. I walked up the first few steps and obtained a better reading, but judged it better not to bother the residents by zeroing in any more precisely.

Proof gathered, I didn't linger and headed back the way I came. With the help of a bus going only partway back, I actually caught up to the same bus I had been on originally - now functional again, and having turned around at the route's end by the lake. This got me back downtown in plenty of time to catch the Seattle Symphony's evening concert, featuring Copland's Third Symphony.
