The crazy thing was that when we checked out the map the day before, Tacoma looked really close to the end of the train line. So after catching the bus from our AirBnB to the train station, we caught the Link Light Rail down to Angle Lake Station. However, when we got there we realised that we weren't even half way - there was still 24 miles to go! Given our time constraints we figured we better catch a ride, so we hailed a Lyft, and we were soon speeding down the highway with Romeo.

  • The Quaternary family geohashers (or at least two of them)

Plans

We're (Quaternary) are over from New Zealand for a wedding in Seattle. Saturday is the day of the wedding, so we'll need to do the hash in the morning so we can get back in time for the wedding. Although it would almost be worth missing the wedding to meet up with the famous Thomcat and other Seattle hashers! In fact, I've never met another hasher in real life before!

Hope to be out there 11:30-12:00 ish, so that we have time to get back for the wedding!

Expedition

The crazy thing was that when we checked out the map the day before, Tacoma looked really close to the end of the train line. So after catching the bus from our AirBnB to the train station, we caught the Link Light Rail down to Angle Lake Station. However, when we got there we realised that we weren't even half way - there was still 24 miles to go! Given our time constraints we figured we better catch a ride, so we hailed a Lyft, and we were soon speeding down the highway with Romeo.

"So what takes you guys to Tacoma," asks Romeo? "Well, um," I stammered, "well, it's this thing ..."

Happily, after explaining the rudimentary rules of geohashing, Romeo didn't appear to think we were completely mad, and indeed seemed genuinely interested (thanks for the encouragement, Romeo!)

As we approached the hashpoint it occurred to me that it would have been good to have had some chalk. Spotting a $1 Shop - "Romeo, can we detour to the $1 shop?" - we stopped at the $1 Shop and bought a box of chalk (it cost $1).

From there is was a short drive to the hashpoint!

Now I know we should really have purchased some tacos from Taqueria hermanos cardona, but we had a wedding get home to. So we said farewell to Romeo, and caught the bus back to our AirBnB, about 40 miles to the north. We had 30 minutes to get ready for before heading out to the wedding - plenty of time!

And thanks to Fippe for making my 3 continents Globetrotter icon! (How did you manage to create it so fast??)
