I saw this hash in mid-afternoon time with the mild panic of almost missing what, on the surface, seemed like an easy get. But as soon as I zoomed in I could see it was a forlorn hope. Some other geohash people I talk to also pointed this out around the same time with ruefullness.
I decided to set off anyway, being off work at the moment. I knew that even if the occupants of the house were amenable to me entering and getting to the exact hash location (not an impossible scenario, see 2012-12-22 -37 144), Melbourne's recent and fifth lockdown makes it illegal to enter anyone's home. So even if I had made it to the hash I wouldn't be telling you about it here.
I jumped onto my newly serviced fixy and headed up Moonee Ponds Creek, turning off just before the hash-street. I got to the location, saw that the hash was indeed inside the house and tried to get my GPS as close to the point as possible.
There was a high fence so it would have been a bit of a commitment to enter the front yard. I could also see that someone was in the front room with a good view of the front yard. So I'd definitely end up having to explain myself if I did jump in (and considering the hash was about 12m away - I'd only get to within about 8m of the hash anyway).
So I took some photos, got back on my bike and went home, taking the slightly straighter eastern route, bracing myself against the wind. When I got back I bought a kayak.
