Welcome!
You're probably here because you found one of my markers! If so, welcome! The sticker that you found and scanned indicated that that location (or somewhere nearby) was once a geohash that I went to.
If you're the kind of person who regularly scans random QR codes on weird stickers, then weirdly there's a probably decent chance you'll enjoy geohashing!
Expeditions
If you'd like to read my expedition report for the geohash that you found, click on the link that describes where you found the sticker:
- in front of 72/74 Braund Rd in Prospect, Adelaide, Australia
- in front of Villanova Farmacia in Villanova, Italy
- on a drainpipe in Monselice, Italy
If you don't see it, either I haven't written the report or I've forgotten to link it here.
Info
What is a geohash?
Geohashing is a game invented by Randall Munroe in 2008 for his webcomic xkcd, where each day a random coordinate is generated in each graticule (1°x1° square on the globe), and the goal is simply to get to it. Most of the time, this location is probably going to be inaccessible - in private property, a body of water, or generally being just too far away (graticules are big)... but sometimes it's possible!
If you reach (or fail to reach) a geohash, usually you'll also write about it on this wiki - although that's optional. You can also claim achievements for doing something specific while going to (or while at) a geohash.
There are a lot of pages on this wiki that explain this a lot better than I can, so you should probably read them.
Can I remove the sticker?
Yep! I'm sorry if I've placed it somewhere inappropriate, so feel free to remove it.
What's up with the design?
Obviously, the QR code directs you to this page. The bird character is a brush bronzewing named Pico (a fursona of mine), and the Cyndaquil plush is (representative of) my hashscot, Therm. The map pin shows that the sticker is at or near a past geohash.
