Sunday, 12:00 AM
We crossed through a very quiet Newton, NJ, and pulled up on the side of the road just as the clock turned to midnight, Sunday morning. The printed maps gave little clue about scale, so we circled around until we found the spot that looked the closest to the Gogle maps drop-target.
Again, we climbed out of the car to take pictures. I stood about 10 feet off the east side of the road. My wife tried to make sure the line of trees between us and the nearest house were in the picture, so she walked off the same distance from the road. While she took her pictures, she heard something rustling in the grass behind her. "At least it's too cold for snakes!" she thought to herself. Then she told me what she'd heard, and switched places with me so I could get her picture as well.
By now we'd been in town for most of an hour, and at this geohash for at least 15 minutes, when a police car, probably a state trooper, came through from the north. As we were parked on the sholder, he asked is there was anything wrong. Jennie put on her "silly geek girl" routine and explained how we were doing this crazy thing from the internet, and the police officer was kind enough not to drag us off to padded cells (oh, but straightjackets are so warm!)
