The Middlesbrough graticule is at latitude 54, longitude -1. It is centred on Middlesbrough contains the city of Sunderland, most of the city of Newcastle upon tyne and the towns of Middlesbrough and Stockton-on-Tees. It extends as far as Gateshead and in the North, and Ripon in the South. It is focused around the route of the A19 from the A1 to the Tyne Tunnel
