[[User:Monty|Monty]] made the expedition (which makes it sound more eventful than it was) and if Google Maps isn't lying too much about the actual coordinate location can claim the find.  Write-up, photos and compression of this blurb into a "Visited" entry sometime later today or tonight.  If anyone else has any information to put up before I get around to it, feel free and I'll add to it. --[[User:Monty|Monty]] 07:27, 3 February 2011 (EST)

The Sheffield graticule is at latitude 53, longitude -1. It contains York, Bradford, Leeds, Halifax, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Doncaster, Rotherham, Sheffield, Chesterfield & Mansfield.

Quirks

The Sheffield graticule tends to only be active in and around Leeds. The "4pm meetups" in this graticule tend to happen at about 11am local time, for arrival at the hashpoint at around noon. See individual excursion pages for more details.

People

Chesterfield

Jonty's in Chesterfield, but also doesn't have a car. If it's ever somewhere close by (within walking distance) then he'll try to make it!

Leeds

Ajtag is based in Leeds and occasionally has gone on his bike.

Koolkat is an XKCD fan in Leeds, but without a car so if somewhere is close I might turn up randomly.

s0600204 is a student returning home to Leeds at Christmas, Easter and Summer, and would be able to cycle to nearby locations at these times.

Another Leeds fan without a car. Hoping to show up one day.

Lannanos is in Leeds during University term times.

amc is an xkcd fan in Leeds, again without a car, and tends to go hashing in the mornings, so won't be at any 4pm meets.

Sheffield

Englishdude lives in Sheffield, and may do some.

Fin would love to come but cant drive, any where near Sheffield and I will be there.

SheffieldRach will make it if she can walk there.

Zootle lives in Sheffield and does have a car, but still hasn't made it to any locations yet.

Monty has car and a fairly central reticular position. Doesn't have a GPS but flatters himself that he can read maps, for what that's worth. One meetup, so far, but that was before actually enwikiing himself so probably is a little cheaty.

Tadcaster

Caesium is in Tadcaster and has never been, but will attempt the next nearby Saturday. If it's not raining.

Wakefield

Tuomas is a Wakefield based student, XKCD fan also without a car. Waiting for a Saturday close by.

York

Athatar lives in York, has a car and plans to meet up if he isn't working

Djomp is in York so may do some.

Locale Unknown

TomViza has been on a couple of Saturdays.

Elv very much wants to come but cannot drive. She can, however, walk, bus or hire a car-driving friend for the day.

Expeditions

Potential Sheffield location

The 2011-02-03 53 -1[1] Thursday landing-zone looks (at first glance of the map) to be inside the grounds of a Sheffield University hall of residence. Monty may be in the area at so far unknown time likely to be between 10:30 and midday, and will try to pluck up the courage to approach the doubtless ever-present porters/security guards with a plea to get a little closer than the nearest public highway. Otherwise go to the bend on Endcliffe Avenue that is the closest external point. It occurs to me that if any of you Sheffielders are Uni people, in particular, and have time to spare tomorrow (in-between rioting outside Nick Clegg's house and watching daytime TV (j/k! ...I think)), this locality should be easy to bus, ride and/or walk to[2]. If it isn't even a Couchpotato for someone!

Because of the doubt over my schedule, I'm not announcing an official meetup, but maybe there'll be some bumping into each other anyway.

[1] Page yet to be created, but will definitely do if there's anything to report, including interesting failure. Feel free to arrange its existence yourself, of course.

[2] I still won't be able to claim any of those respective achievements, being at least partially motorised on Thursdays due to various other necessities.
