With my brother in law we boarded his trusted car (renamed for that ocasion as Geo-Mobile) and left for an adventure in the snowy fields and forests of Poland's most eastern part. The road was treacherous, as it started to snow again and the asphalt was covered with the black ice. We passed one serious looking accident (a truck met his end on the tree, the cabin was completly crashed on the driver's side). When we left the main roads it got even worse - more snow on the roads, we were even considering abandoning our quest and returning but decided to press on.

The forest was very nice looking. The roads were to our surprise better -apparently that was a popular forest for kulig (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kulig) and the trees were protecting it from falling snow. The geo-point was quite close to the road, so we didn't have to fight with the snow for a long time while walking trough it. Then my ingenious brother in law got a great idea for a new kind of XKCD mark - but unfortunatelly run out of body fluids too soon, so we had to finish it with sticks... Oh well, next time we will be better prepared ;-). Anyway - my first Polish expedition in my home graticule was a full success!

About

While visiting my parents in Chełm in eastern Poland I decided to go for a virgin graticule. I waited for three days for a temperature to rise from -28 to a more reasonable -6,5.

Expedition

With my brother in law we boarded his trusted car (renamed for that ocasion as Geo-Mobile) and left for an adventure in the snowy fields and forests of Poland's most eastern part. The road was treacherous, as it started to snow again and the asphalt was covered with the black ice. We passed one serious looking accident (a truck met his end on the tree, the cabin was completly crashed on the driver's side). When we left the main roads it got even worse - more snow on the roads, we were even considering abandoning our quest and returning but decided to press on.

The forest was very nice looking. The roads were to our surprise better - apparently that was a popular forest for kulig (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kulig) and the trees were protecting it from falling snow. The geo-point was quite close to the road, so we didn't have to fight with the snow for a long time while walking through it. Then my ingenious brother in law got a great idea for a new kind of XKCD mark - but unfortunately ran out of body fluids too soon, so we had to finish it with sticks... Oh well, next time we will be better prepared ;-). Anyway - my first Polish expedition in my home graticule was a full success!
