Expedition

Number three in this years bicycle hash tour (to number two and four).

Todays hashpoint should bring me in the extreme north eastern corner of the 48_8-graticule again (and this time I couldn't sleep so close to the hash and had to leave the graticule again for a hotel).

I left in the morning with cloudy and cold but dry weather. First I had almost to return to yesterdays hashpoint again, where I could cross the Autobahn. Now I followed the valley of Weinsberg for a while until it abruptly ended in Löwenstein. Here I had to climb 250 m up, but it was still early in the morning and so I managed this although my legs were still sour from the day before yesterday. From here the landscape changed totally. The dulcet valley with its vineyards changed to a sparse plateau. But after a while with moderate ups and downs I reached the rivulet Rot and therefor the next valley. In the middle of the forest I found the remaining of a former roman castle and learned that the limes (UNESCO World Heritage) courses here through the valley of the Rot. I followed the Rot and the Kocher for the next 30 kilometers before I had to climb the plateau again.

20 kilometers later I came near the hash. It was situated next to a small road so I didn't expect any difficulties, but it hided in a dense copse and gps reception was bad, so I entered the thicket several times but never got a satisfying result. Nevertheless there was no severe obstacle around and so I'm sure, I reached the exact points once at least.

Funny enough there was a hotel next to the hashpoint again for the third time, but this time it was kind of a holiday and golf resort and these are usually not prepared for guests that stay only one night. So I continued the ride to the next little town, called Ellwangen an der Jagst. It has an old church, a chateau and a pilgrimage church but I was to tired to see much of the town.
