Expedition

Being the first Monday of May, that means it's the first ride of Slow Roll Buffalo (a weekly community bike ride around the city). When I checked the hashpoints for the day, I found that this one wasn't that far away from downtown where we would be riding from. I knew if I could get ready immediately after work, I could drive over to the hash while it was still light out and still have plenty of time to get to the ride.

Earlier forecasts had cold and rain all day, but the day turned out to be sunny, but windy. One of those days where it's too hot in the sun for a jacket and too cold in the shade without. Knowing this, I brought a thin beanie to wear under my helmet and long gloves, but figured just a t-shirt under my riding jacket would be enough. Making my way to the hash after work, I was able to find the street with no trouble and was happy to find it had huge shoulders where people could park. I drove past the hash to make a u-turn so I could park on the side closest to the hash and walked up the sidewalk. It was a simple expedition with the Hashdroid App with barely a GPS dance. Getting my pictures, I didn't feel as awkward as normal because the house the hash was in front of was for sale. So if anyone saw me, maybe they assumed I was interested in the house and getting some pictures for reference later.

I then made my way back downtown to the ride where I parked in the sun and a couple blocks away from the start of the ride. It felt great and not all that windy, so I left the beanie in the car and rode to Niagara Square where I immediately regretted my decision. With all the tall buildings around, the wind was really whipping by and City Hall was blocking the Sun so I got cold fast. Once we started, it wasn't as bad, but I definitely could have used another layer. Still, it was a fun evening, made better with a random and successful adventure.

This turned into the start of a Consecutive streak and you can read about the next day's adventure here.
