I will be changing trains at Zürich HB this afternoon, so in between I might take an S-Bahn + bicycle trip out here. Coyotebush (talk) 05:45, 23 July 2024 (UTC)

Expedition

I woke up in Salzburg and caught the 9:56 Railjet to Zurich. It arrived perfectly on time at 15:20, so I had 15 minutes to find the platform for the next train to Illnau. I didn't find the elevators until I returned, but I got my Brompton and everything down on the escalators. No ticket purchase needed since I was already using my Eurail pass for the day.

Return trains were scheduled in 5, 35, and 65 minutes, so I aimed for 35. From the Illnau station, both Google and Garmin sent me biking on various roads and I picked the more direct option. This turned out to be a busy road and I eventually noticed a parallel bike path - much nicer. Turn across the busy road, friendly wave to folks on a bench, road turned to gravel. Got close, then checked satellite imagery and saw a tree-less passage leading closer, so I walked in there. Walked the border of a bramble patch before concluding the point was right in the middle - fortunately it was low to the ground.

Photos and hurried back out. On the return ride, I kept following the bike path as it diverged from the main road, and it eventually led close to the station. Made it with 5 minutes or so to spare, and I think the train was even a bit late. This time I had company in the bike area from food delivery riders.
