[Detroit, MI]

The Detroit graticule is at latitude 42, longitude -83. It includes about 90% of Detroit, all of Detroit's western suburbs (Southfield, Livonia, Canton), most of Oakland County (Royal Oak, Troy, Pontiac, Sterling Heights), and all of Ann Arbor. It also encompasses about half of Windsor, Ontario and half of Flint, Michigan.

The Detroit graticule does not include northern Flint (43, -83), some of Detroit's eastern suburbs such as Mt. Clemens, or eastern parts of Windsor (42, -82). However, depending on the density of XKCDers and the location of the hot spot, individuals from these areas may want to consider the Detroit graticule instead.

Saturday - 6/7/08

Matt Looks like I might be able to make it to this one. It's just south of the Home Depot in Madison Heights. Anyone else planning to go?

Ryan: I've been busy the last two Saturdays since this has started. How fortunate for the first one I can actually make to be like 10 minutes away! I'll be there. Or as close as I can be with out spooking the people in that house.

Sunday - 6/01/08

Bella, Noam, Noah, and Eric (Shenron): We got there at around 12 PM. Since we lacked a GPS we couldn't verify our coordinates but we used a printed Google Map and some heuristics to work it out. Nobody else was there. Pictures will be uploaded later. It was in the middle of a field on a private road in an area that looked like it was being developed for new houses. We had a picnic in the shade on the side of the road, and later when we biked back we swam in an abandoned quarry by the Huron River.

Saturday - 5/31/08

Chris I showed up at 4:15 (a bit late because of construction on I-75). It was very quiet. A cop showed up, pulled into the dead-end drive just to the west. He sat there for about two minutes, then drove off. I wondered what the alfalfa would taste like right out of the field, but didn't try any. I waited until 4:30 and figured nobody else was coming. I went to Willow Metropark. I skated on my ripstik and played with the diabolos and boomarang which I brought along for entertainment. Drove home.

Saturday - 5/24/08

2008-05-24 -- The coordinates for Saturday, May 24th has been published.

The Detroit graticule location is: 42.1266480113970560, -83.5475331240942810

This location is not only on land, but appears to be very reachable.

It is also on private property, which we got kicked off of, by several irate locals. They also attempted to take down our license plates. However, there was Nintendo 64 to be had around the corner. (We were also late.)

At some point near the end of the festivities Noam, Nima, and Eric successfully managed to attain pictures of the location by rushing in on bikes and snapping a picture really quickly.

Attendees: Eric, Andrew, Steve, Ruthi, Amelia, Jackie, Nima, Noam, Eric (shenron on irc)

Nate and Hannah arrived early and missed the others, but grabbed this picture. The spot lies in the field next to the yard with the large dogs. (If someone who's already mastered this wiki software would like to unhose the picture, it'd be appreciated. I'm already frustrated after waiting 6 minutes for it to upload, *then* being informed that the file was too large. --Nate)

Notable Events

On the off chance that the spot for Saturday, May 24th is downtown (it's not), you might also consider attending Movement, Detroit's Electronic Music Festival[1] while you're there (you won't be, but go anyway it'll be fun).
