Expedition

After his escape from Aarau following 2013-01-12 47 7, Calamus sat in his office with the intention to work until it was time to leave in order to reach the next hashpoint at midnight.

To make a long story short, he didn't work at all. As it was not at all uncommon that Calamus sat in his office at 10pm during holiday on a weekend, the nice accountant from upstairs came down out of mere habit and brought him some tea. Fortunately, Calamus had still some cake from his birthday the day before (when each and every one of his coworkers had felt the urge to bring him one), so they had a nice tea break, which lasted until Calamus really had to leave.

Unfortunately, the accountant as well as the people he encountered on his way to the train (Waldzitherclown, a former high school teacher of his and the president of town) all had their plans for the evening and couldn't accompany Calamus (or so they said), which was why he sat once again alone in the very short half-past-ten train from Zurich to Aarau. At least he knew now why it was so short.

Already having walked the way from Aarau to Erlinsbach twice that day, he decided to give his standard procedure a break and take the bus. The driver was as nice as to wait for him, and off they went. Calamus was lucky that the hashpoint wasn't further than Erlinsbach, because right after the station, the bus broke down.

On the village plaza, a party seemed to be going on. Calamus had already seen it when passing through the village during the afternoon, but now it had become very big and noisy, considering it was somewhere in between Argovia and Solothurn. Some signs indicated that this was the Speuzfest. What a nice name - in just about any Germanic-based Swiss language, Speuz (pronounced "shpoits") or similar has the secondary meaning of "panache" and "innovation", but primarily means "spit" or "saliva". So this was a spitting party? Like the spitting contest in Monkey Island 2? On his way further to the hashpoint, Calamus conjectured that Speuz probably was a nickname of Erlinsbach originating from the religous spitting.

The hashpoint lay on a hill in a small but tangled and dense group of trees. As the satellite signal tended to shift a bit, Calamus didn't bother fighting his way through it until it was almost midnight. When he did, he managed to home the signal exactly - until about two seconds before midnight the satellite shifted and the was five metres off. That was still in the error margin, so Calamus wasn't too upset.

He considered joining the Speuzfest, but the drunkards in front of the entrance made him reconsider that. The Speuzer Schränzer ("people from spittown who tug mindlessly"), who started to play "music" that moment, which was as loud as it was atonal, confirmed this decision, and he returned to Zurich.
