Um, planning?

Expedition

I got the call from Stuart The Garage: "Your truck had a stuck turbo waste gate. Stop using it for short journeys you muppet." OK, I thought. Need to take it for a longish run. What can I do in an hour?

I remembered Calamus had given me some pointers the other day when I failed to even start getting to a geohash. I checked the cupboard for cake but there was a shocking lack, so decided to check todays geohash. Joy of joys, it's in Hatfield! Jewel of the... Hatfield environs; my alma-mater. I shall go to Hatfield the long way down the back roads and reminisce of work days and poly/uni days.

It's been some years (20<<cough>>) since I used the backroads from Baldock to Hatfield to get to work, so after I drove around lost for 20 mins or so outside Woolmer Green I approached from a slightly different angle than I'd planned. But that was OK. The journey was not short and I was obeying the instructions of Stuart The Garage.

So the point was on the Comet roundabout going north on the inside I think. I drove around it a couple of times just to make sure and then parked in the Comet Hotel car park, fending off a very nice chap who wanted to wash the truck. To be fair, it does need it. I took photos. I got out. Watched a learner motorcyclist with a sat nav wobble past the geohash point and wondered whether he was a geohasher. Looked hard at the Comet model, which used to be the sign when I was a kid that we were nearly home from London (this was way before the Galleria and the tunnel). Had a little think about the various trolleys I had pushed/been pushed in past this very spot when at Poly. Great days.

This was my first geohash. Jolly good fun, if a little odd. Thanks to those of you who made this possible.

Tracklog

Didn't think of that.
