Expedition
I hadn't planned to make an expedition today. The hashpoint was close but it looked likely that it would be inaccessible behind a fence. But reading other peoples' January 1 reports was inspiring, and after I had finished the stuff I needed to do today and everyone else was out of the house I went for it.
The satmap showed a pasture surrounded on its road boundaries by a fence, which turned out to be wire. When I arrived, just after dark, I found that that there was a big gap in the fence just south of the hashpoint, and what amounted to a dirt road going through the gap. It looks like this pasture has been sold and is being graded for new housing or something; there were tracks of earth-moving equipment all around. Everything was covered with an inch of snow and it was pretty dark so I couldn't see exactly what was going on (and my photos are bad). Nonetheless it was trivial to reach the hashpoint, and start 2016 with a successful expedition.
Station KMIBYRON4, at (42.7961, -85.6544), less than a mile to the northwest, reports 28 degrees F at 6:20pm so I am claiming a Frozen Hash here.
