Expedition

Pastori and the point.

So as to make sure they definitely had control over this graticule, Pastori and Wife went out get another hashpoint today as well. This time the point was 26 km away as the bird flies and 31 km by roads to the north as opposed to south where they went yesterday. The weather was semi-cloudy and they first headed out to take some pictures of their cottage from the other side of the lake. They had noticed cars driving on the other side and so it was that there was a sandy road right by the shore. After a quick photo session they continued on to their actual goal, the hashpoint. The drive was mostly a paved road towards a settled area after which the road turned into a sandy road on which they drove for another 5 km before they found the point close to the road. The point was alongside a small path about 10 m from the road, among some young trees. It doesn't get easier than this.

Then Pastori got excited over some fir trees near by because he knew that it was a good place to find some yellowfoot mushrooms (Cantharellus tubaeformis) which he adores. So off he went in a rush with a basket and a knife to hunt some mushrooms. After about half an hour he had unfortunately found only a couple of yellowfoots. Apparently the autumn has been too dry for them to grow properly. But Pastori did indeed know that there would be some there. Wife spent this time picking lingonberries. Instead of mushrooms Pastori had managed to collect the things he loaths most in this world, namely deer flies (Lipoptena cervi), 10-15 of them all over his clothes and hair. They're nastly little things, near impossible to kill. After a few minutes of carefully going through Pastori's clothes Wife managed to clear them all off Pastori. In the end they returned to their cottage happily. Tomorrow they will return home through some possible hashpoints.

Autumnal bliss = yellowfoot mushroom.
