Plans
With the weather forecast showing it might get to the 40's, I am thinking of riding my bike to this hash. The woods don't appear to be posted so I may have a chance. If I decide not to ride, I'll take the dogs to Boston Forest for a hike and walk over to the hash after.
Expedition
With the temps in the upper 30's, I decided I was going to be lazy and not ride my bike. Instead, I piled the dogs in the car and drove to our normal parking spot at Boston Forest County park. Arriving, I was surprised to see a bunch of cars in the parking lot. Normally, a busy day is one car. There were two women chatting by one of the cars and as I pulled in, they broke off and left leaving one car besides mine.
My plan was to walk down the trails to the corner of Rice and Feddick Rd, then walk down Feddick to Haag and the corner where the hash was. It was a nice walk with the ground mostly frozen, which was good because the initial path is usually pretty soggy. Getting to the section where the snowmobiles go, the path turned into a super compacted icy path. It was slippery in spots, but those could mostly be avoided by walking on the edges. Getting to the corner, we walked down the road to the corner. Across the road, two dogs were barking at us in the house, but they must have their own outside access because shortly after, they came charging out on the lawn to continue ferociously bark at us. Fortunately, we were enough down the road that they stayed in their yard (or they were bound by an invisible fence). Seeing that there were no posted signs, we made our way into the woods to the hash. With a short GPS dance, I got some pictures and we made our way back to the road. Since the dogs across the street were still outside and barking at us, I continued to walk up the road and away from them rather than head back. We didn't walk too far, but when we turned around and passed that house, the dogs were inside and again they ran outside to bark at us again. Getting back to the park, the dogs got to finish running around as we made our way carefully back to the car.
I will check back in a week, but it appears so far that this may be a Last Man Standing expedition for the day.
