Location
wet woods in a residential area, Grand Rapids, MI
Participants
Expedition
Commute home: alight from bus at intermediate stop, walk 1 km to hashpoint, dance and grin, walk back to bus stop, resume commute to end of line where my bike was waiting, bike from there home.
To enter the woods I more or less had to go close by some houses. I asked a lady who was out weeding her garden for permission to walk along her back fence, pointing out that I was playing an Internet game and needed to get to a target point in the woods behind the houses. She asked "Are you geocaching?" so I explained, "No, it's geohashing. It's similar to geocaching except there's no prize at the end and the target points change every day."
Travel in the woods was pretty easy. They were relatively open with little underbrush. There was a lot of sharp-edged grass. There was what appeared to be a deer trail that led in the right direction, though, and that helped. Had it rained lately this would have been quite muddy but it's been dry for several days and there was no mud, even in the little streambed where the hashpoint was.
