Expedition
This is the Part 2 Expedition for today; my lunchtime expedition can be found here. Upon arriving home after work, I let the dogs out in the backyard while I got ready to go. They were very excited to see their collars and leashes and eagerly jumped into the car.
On the drive out, there are two fairly large lakes right next to each other by the 219 that I always check out as I drive by. Today I noticed that right in the middle of the smaller lake, a deer had decided to swim across.
Getting to the park, we didn't have to pay the entrance fee since we were arriving after 17:00. Driving up to Thunder Rocks, I turned on my GPS and when I got to the intersection, I was surprised that I had to turn Right and away from the parking area. I drove down Ridge Road and toward the hash and realized I had mistaken Ridge Road for the Road I took on the overhead map. We were able to park pretty close to the hash and found a dry flat spot to pull off. It was flat open woods making the last tenth of a mile a breeze. Arriving at the hash, a simple GPS dance got us close enough and a successful Double-Hash was completed! We had about an hour of light left so we walked back to the car and up the road. I noticed a path crossing the road on the drive over and wanted to check it out. I'm glad I did because it was a lesser used path with a spectacular feel as we walked down. Hitting the main road, we turned around and tried the other side which was equally interesting. Over there, I was in a different world. The woods were a little thicker, but there was absolutely no wind and nearly completely quiet. It was a great hike and we made it back to the car a little before the sun set.
Tired and hungry, I fed the dogs in the car and stopped on the way home for some dinner for myself.
