Location

Southern edge of Ashtabula, Ohio by train tracks

Participants

Expedition

I was driving to Detroit to visit a friend and go to an away Buffalo Sabres game on Saturday. Unfortunately, I needed to leave early to get there at a reasonable time and was on the road by 8:30am. I hit the Pennsylvania line right around hash o'clock and pulled over at a rest stop to check the hashes remaining between there and Detroit. This one looked good being close to a road and next to train tracks in the woods and I figured I'd give it a try. (I said unfortunately before because I checked the Buffalo graticule in the evening and the hash was on the sidewalk of Seneca st. in South Buffalo so no double hash today.)

I pulled up directions on my phone and was off to Ashtabula. It wasn't too far from an exit off the thruway I was on and wasn't much of a detour since I also needed to stop for gas anyway at that point. Locating the road, I had no trouble parking when I arrived as there was a wide pull off next to the tracks.

With no posted signs, I headed into the woods. A minute later I heard a train horn and a short train went by which was cool. I worked my way to the hash using the Hashdroid app and had a short but successful GPS dance.

Getting my pics, I headed back to the car to continue on my way.

The plan was to drive home through Canada, but I forgot to grab the GPS so I wouldn't be able to use my phone on the way home. Turns out there wasn't any accessible hashes on Sunday through Canada or the US so it was a moot point. At least the Sabres were on fire to end their (very disappointing) season on a high note, beating the Detroit Redwings 7-1.
