I've recently been working during the week in the country town of Benalla, about 3 hours north of Melbourne in Victoria. It's for the precast concrete factory for Melbourne's West Gate Tunnel project.
From my motel I noticed the hash for today - only about 5 kms out of town. Me and my hash-going group have been pretty constrained because of the Covid-19 restrictions. In Melbourne, we're not allowed out of the house for more than an hour a day for exercise and have to stay within a 5 km radius.
However, Benalla has more lenient restriction. So, after work, which I rode my bike to, instead of riding straight to my hire car located back at my motel in town, I rode through town to the geohash.
I crossed the Hume Freeway and battled the headwinds towards the turn in the road of the hash. Upon reaching the closest road-point I clambered over the barbed-wire fence and waded through the long grass between two bull paddocks. The wind-break shielded me not only against the wind but also sightings from the farmhouse.
Hash reached, I headed back towards the fence. As I crossed the barbed- and electrified-wire, one of the young bulls ran towards me, but I was safely behind the fence.
I got back on my bike and rode into the sunset, to Benalla (I took a cute, little path that crossed the river), to my motel, into my hired ute and all the way back to Melbourne. I arrived at my house 1 minute after the 8pm curfew began, but I wasn't arrested.
Here is the route I took starting from work and finishing at my motel.
