Expedition
We figure we should do an expedition in the Mt Rainier graticule every thirteen or fourteen years whether it needs it or not, and it's been a while since 2011-07-21 46 -121, so once again we headed west out of the Yakima valley on Highway 12.
A few miles past a little village called Rimrock Retreat, I think -- I'm not seeing it on the map -- we turn right on Soup Creek Road and drove in a ways until there was a wide enough shoulder to turn off on. From there, a five or ten minute walk through open forest, along with a hop across little Soup Creek, got us to the hashpoint without too much trouble.
Forty-five minutes later, ordering lunch back in Naches, a guy asked us "were you just hiking off of Soup Creek Road?" He had been elk hunting and saw us come out of the woods. We kept it simple: yes, we'd gone for a nice little hike.
