Location

Today's location is at the outside fence of the Hockenheimring. The racing cars can be heard from the hashpoint, but that would be the case even from a kilometre away.

Country: Germany; state: Baden-Württemberg (EU:DE:BW); administrative region: Karlsruhe; district: Rhein-Neckar-Kreis

I came to Hockenheim, looking for a gas station. The "not much fuel left" lamp had been flashing for a while and by that time the fuel level must really be running low. I followed the GPS in "find next gas station" mode, only to find out the gas station has been long abandoned. Next gas station on the list: 5 km north. Okay, then I'll go to the hashpoint first...

After crossing the Autobahn I reached the entrance to the Hockenheimring, where I wasn't allowed to drive any further, so I parked there. Then I followed the forest track along the outside fence. All the time I could hear racing cars: The "ADAC Rheintal Rennen" (German automobile association, rhine valley race) took place. I never heard of it, but I heard it. When I was directly south of the hashpoint, at an intersection with another forest track, I was still 0.0014° (155 m) from the hashpoint but I could see the fence clearly. Oh no! I followed the other forest track, getting nearer to the hashpoint, the GPS counting down, and the fence also getting nearer. Standing at the fence, I was still a few metres south of the hashpoint. NOOOO! But wait, the East offset is not correct, I still have to go 15 metres to the east! And "TADAAAAA", the GPS showed the correct coordinates directly in front of the fence. HOORAY! I stood around for a while taking pictures of the grandstand, then I went back to the car.

In Schwetzingen, I finally found a gas station. Phew, I had been picturing myself walking around with a jerry can. But from the amount of fuel fitting into the tank I calculated that I could have driven another 20 km.
