Expedition

Today's hashpoint was so close it would have been a shame to pass it up. Enthusiasm was lacking in the larger group, however, so I combined a geohashing expedition with a scouting trip to Welton Falls to see whether it would be a good destination for a group hike. I drove to near the Welton Falls trailhead and parked the car.

Welton Falls, while not spectacular, is lovely and we will probably try to mount a group trip there later this week. It does require crossing the Fowler River; young people with strong legs and good balance would be able to rock-hop it safely, but I chose to shed the shoes and wade.

The actual geohashing walk started from the falls-trail trailhead on Welton Falls Road, then continued onto the aptly named Old Dicey Road. I had not been able to drive as far along the road as I expected, so I had about a 2-mile walk along mostly rough gravel roads from trailhead to hashpoint. I had a choice between a several-hundred-meter bushwhack through moderately dense woods or a longer roadwalk that doubled back to within about 40 m of the hashpoint. I chose the latter. I got a green GPS reading within 2.5m pretty quickly, and then did a quite frustrating hashdance where every direction of walk seemed to make the distance longer.

I know of at least two other places called Alexandria so I'll issue a Tale of Two Hashes challenge for this one.
