Expedition 1 - Rob

When my geohashing buddies alerted me to this one, I knew that I just had to take it. It was right along the route that I use to take my son to Gymnastics, which I could access with an absolute minimum of road cycling. Once on the linear reserve along the Port Melbourne tram line, I would be cycling through idyllic parkland all the way to the hash.

From Google street view, I'd seen that the hash lay just slightly within someone's front yard, but I was betting that my arm would be long enough to reach the spot without technically trespassing. I wasn't wrong.

Expedition 2 - Felix

I obviously had to get this one. Within reach, accessible for bikes, a part of town I feel a great fondness for. But the question was when.

Rob nabbing the point during the morning was an inspiration for my own efforts (despite taking the pressure off losing the point to a non-attempt). But I was spending the day out at my construction site near Cranbourne and I was going to a BBQ in the evening in Fitzroy.

My first plan was to go directly after work and head to the BBQ after that. But alas, I ran out of time. So I'd have to get the point post-BBQ (always a fraught situation).

At an opportune moment within BBQ-ing (approx. 9:30) I announced that I was off to do a geohash. My fellow-BBQtioners were intrigued, to the extent that one of my buddies, James, who'd recently moved down from Sydney was keen to come along.

We set him up with the host's bike and some lights and off we went. I alerted my always-reliable geohashing companion Lachie as well and we agreed to meet in Southbank.

It was an easy trip to the hash, with the traffic light at this time in the evening and the headwinds not presenting too much of a challenge. We dodged pedestrians along the Southbank Promenade and made our way along my old route at the 109 tramline.

Soon we were there. We reached our arms over the fence to get within 5m, much as Rob had done before, took some photos and then went to sit on the beach and drink a beer while we listened to the wind-enhanced surf. After a few minutes we were back on our way and one-by-one peeling off to reach our respective places of sleep.
