What's left of the Chandeleur Islands constitute the eastern most part of the state of Louisiana. They are the only land surface in graticule 29N 88W. They are home to one of the oldest US wildlife refuges. A hundred years ago they supported a small population and even a light house. In fact three lighthouses have been built there but hurricanes kept knocking them down. The islands were most recently devastated by the infamous hurricanes of this century. The little land now remaining above water seems to be eroding fast.
