Hi and welcome to geohashing! Thanks for writing up your expedition -- it's always great to hear of people being keen, especially when it's nearby (I'm just over the graticule border in Cambridge, so you're vaguely local). Perhaps I'll even bump into you at some point at a future geohash. "Not a lot of forward thinking" sounds a lot like many of my expeditions as well, so you're definitely doing it right...
