Plans

Dad was visiting for the weekend, and he loves to get out and be active, especially in parks and on trails. This hashpoint was perfect!

Expedition

Driving up to the trail wasn't all that difficult. Finding parking, on the other hand, was much more challenging. But after looping back some, we found an open spot, even if it dipped alarmingly towards an eroded section that tumbled further down to the river...

The trailhead area has an interesting mix of historical buildings and info placards. They only interested me mildly, so we crossed in fairly short order towards the trails. Not before I stopped to admire the structures surrounding the river.

Lynn Loop Trail is fairly decent going, and very well marked. The fun came when we had to take a second, intermediate-rated trail. There was significant doubt as to whether it was actually a trail, but I spotted trail markers placed on the trees, so I persuaded my dad that this was in fact a real, honest-to-goodness trail. As we went further up, it became clearer that this was a real trail, with wooden steps and all. But it sure didn't look that way at first!

Due to the tree cover and our location on the side of a mountain, GPS wasn't as accurate or reliable as I had hoped. But we got to where I was happy with our location. Still, Dad wanted to try and run down the actual spot and spent a good five minutes going up hill and down hill, back and forth in the brush, never able to get the GPS to read exactly the right coordinates. This amused me, as I had explained the nature of GPS to Dad before, but he still wanted to try. More power to him!
