Location
Close to Jockgrim, north-west of Karlsruhe. Satellite imagery (Google Maps) is too old to be useful. Probably next to a small stream.
Participants
- Kellerkind and his dad
Plans
Cycle to the geohash and enjoy the nice weather on the way. I also wanted to try out my 3D printed Mapillary capturing setup (bicycle-mounted).
Expedition
Dad noticed that the stream we saw on the satellite imagery was "missing" in OSM. He also noticed a path leading right across a field. Guessing the data was incomplete and/or outdated, I checked the history on the objects in the area. To my surprise, the path was last edited 20 days ago!
We concluded that Google Maps doesn't have up-to-date satellite imagery of the geohash (it also doesn't help that the copyright date is almost useless..). Now we were curious about the newly paved (as indicated by OSM data) shortcut across the field and the "missing" stream.
The actual trip there was rather uneventful. It was interesting to see car traffic at almost normal levels (compared to the last weeks).
Arriving there, we first noticed that the stream was apparently recently redirected by the farmers (?), probably to increase the contiguous field area. Looking at the recently paved way we also noticed that we must have cycled past it earlier. It leads right back to the street we were cycling next to just a few minutes ago.
On the way back, a particularly rough bump unlocked another degree of freedom in my bicycle phone mount setup (it broke partially). Easily repaired at home by adding some adhesive tape to the construction.
Tracklog
On OSM (only the way back). Link to the Mapillary sequence will be added here once the upload is done and server processing is done.
