Preparations

It was Friday afternoon when Rafal and I checked the hashpoint for Saturday. Looked like it would not be too far (about an hours drive), so I decided to write an email to a bunch of friends I had been talking about geo-hashing in the past week. When I did my first geo hash last Sunday, I had never expected it to carry me away like that. Last Sunday evening I thought, it would take another month before going to a hash. Here I was planning my fourth hash in a week. This game is really quite addictive. Maybe on day there will be books like “How to quit geo-hashing in two weeks.” I will not write it and would not like to read such a book though.

So anyways, I got some replies and this Saturday’s meetup looked like a big one (at one point 10 people seemed possible). On Saturday, I called everybody and although a lot of people liked to go, we did not have enough cars. We decided to postpone the big meetup and do a slightly smaller one: Hagen would be our driver and Rafal would join us to drive there. The special guest would be Lukas (another one, than the last times). I wrote him an email early on Saturday to warn him, that we might visit him at his parent’s house. On Saturday morning, I called him to explain that we would go to a hashpoint which is only a few kilometers south to where his parents live and he was staying for the weekend. I asked him, if he wanted to join us and he immediately said yes. Cool, four people in was good.

Expedition

At three in the afternoon, we set sail. Leaving Constance to the north, we headed for Stockach. Although there is a big highway, we stuck to the smaller roads and I took some pictures from within the car. There was a beautiful atmosphere with the sun setting, changing the snow-white landscape with its red and yellow light. It was marvelous seeing nature unveil so many colors at the same time.

The outside changed quickly. Just a little later we hit serious fog, which the sun could not penetrate anymore. We came close to the hashpoint at around a quarter past four. We knew it would be inside a field, so we drove close and parked our car. Just at that moment another car approached and blinked his light. It was Lukas who was just in time. Nice. So we got out, felling the cold and walked on the field. There were no significant landmarks except some woods to the north, so it was hard figuring out where the exact point would be. We walked around a little until we decided we had found the right place and took some pictures. It was a very nice expedition. Later we took the car and had a good, hot coffee at Lukas’ place.

Pictures

Thank you Gosia for allowing us to use your camera. Pan Lumis is a great companion.
