Expedition

  • On my way to 32 35. Should be there in about 3.5 hours if all goes well.
  • There's a concern I might not make it. The train I was on developed a mechanical fault, so we were delayed by about ten minutes - which means I just barely missed the connection to the train to Afula.
  • There's another train in an hour, and the bus I need to take from Afula leaves in 2 hours. But Afula is 7 stops away on that train. Will I make it? We'll see...
  • (If I miss that bus, the next bus isn't until 2 hours after that, which is way too late for me to get home at a decent hour, so I'll have to give up.)
  • 5 stops remaining, 48 minutes.
  • 4 stops remaining, 44 minutes. (This is a good sign...)
  • 3 stops remaining, 37 minutes.
  • 2 stops remaining, 26 minutes. I think I'm going to make it!
  • Next stop, 19 minutes remaining.
  • Wow, there is a lot of haze outside the train. Yuck.
  • And cows.
  • We're here! I made it.
  • Getting off the train, going to the bus stop. See you after the point, God willing...
  • Success! I made it to the point. It turned out the satellite photo on Google Maps was a little off; the point is not in the driveway of that house but rather on the grounds of the house itself. Luckily, however, it turned out the house was leveled some time ago so I could just walk up to the point freely. A tiny dog barked at me the whole way until I raised my arms over my head and it fled in terror.
  • On the way back I encountered another half-dozen freely wandering dogs. It's one of those towns, where the people are all irresponsible jerks.
  • Every car that drives by is being chased by a dog. If I lived here I'd be hitting the brakes deliberately in the hope it would smack into the bumper and get a concussion.
