Expedition

I had wanted to go on an expedition yesterday, when the hash was more conveniently located, but it did not work out. Which is a shame, since I would've tied my longest streak of three consecutive geohashes.

This Wednesday, I didn't have to go to uni because my lectures had been moved online, so I planned to take the train to Kaltenkirchen and then the bus to Hasenmoor, cycle to the hash, cycle back to a station (Nützen or Kaltenkirchen) and take the train home. In Kaltenkirchen, after I had waited 15 minutes for the bus, past the time it was supposed to arrive, I looked around and noticed that a minibus, which had stood at the stop for a while, had a small sign in the window that identified it as the "bus" I wanted to take. Obviously, it could not transport my bike, so I inwardly cursed myself for not noticing ten minutes sooner and set off to cycle the 12 km to Hasenmoor instead.

I'd cycled the road and the path along it a few times, but they still have not repaired any of the many cracks and bumps in the cycle path. I arrived, located the hash right next to the tractor tracks on a remote field 30 m from the road and easily reached it. The sun was shining, but it was still pretty chilly, I had to cycle with gloves and scarf. After taking a small break, eating some peanuts and inspecting a nearby shelter for two trailers, I checked the train times and noticed there was a train leaving from Kaltenkirchen in 37 minutes, exactly the time Google predicted it'd take me to cycle there. I had already exercised that day, but figured I should be able to make it without exerting myself too much.

My ETA stayed constant for the first few kilometres, but improved every time I could cycle downhill for a while. In the end, I made it to the station three minutes before the train left without having had to push myself, and rode home.
