On a mountain in Wihr-au-Val.

Participants

Expedition

My plan was to take the train from Sélestat to Wihr-au-Val via Colmar, then hike 40 minutes to the coordinates.

Unfortunately the 17:11 train was cancelled and the 17:41 departed with a 15 minute delay. Apparently, someone drove their truck into a bridge near Mulhouse and they're to blame for all this stuff[1]. Anyway, I arrived 45 minute late at Colmar, just in time to watch the 18:06 train to Metzeral leave without me (of course this one had to be on time).

I could have waited 30 minutes for the next train, but by now it was no longer possible[2] to reach the coordinates and return in time to catch the last return train at 19:54. So I aborted the expedition.

  1. … this time. Most of the time SNCF is capable of cancelling or delaying their trains without any external assistance.
  2. For a reasonable definition of possible. Technically, I think I could have done it, but I didn't want to tempt fate. Also it's 30°C outside!
