Location

Hudson Hills Golf Course

It's a large 18-hole golf course owned and run by Westchester County Parks Department. The hash point was located near an intersection on the cart path by the second hole tee off.

Expedition

So, this is my first geohashing experience (as well as geoanything). I looked at the geohash points for New York,NY, Trenton, NJ, and Danbury, CT. The Danbury, CT hashpoint was located in a golf course, and also fairly close to where I live, even though it's in another graticule. I started my voyage leaving New York City on a New Haven Line Metro North train, picking up my car in New Rochelle, then driving to Target to buy a proper camera, and then leaving to Husdon Hills. Thirty minutes later, I arrived, and was initially denied access to the hashpoint via the front entrance with the guys at the Pro Shop stating that they were too full to allow anyone else in. Not willing to give up so easily, I drove around the course, and found a small park that, if one walked through the woods, emptied out very close to the hash point. Thinking I could claim success, I walked up to the hash point after getting a GPS lock (getting within 2m of the point; my phone's GPS isn't great), dropped my golf ball, took some pictures. On the way back, I noticed that I had hopped a small stone wall that had been hidden due to the overgrowth.

In nature with the "No Trespassing" rules, and the spirit of geohashing, I was going to give up attempting to claim this geohash, but I decided to take one more stab at going in the main entrance a bit later in the day. The guy said that he couldn't let me on the course without me playing, but he had an open tee time, and a set of clubs available for rent. SOLD! One credit card transaction and I was drive towards the first hole, clubs in tow. I should note I never played golf before, so my scores were pathetically bad. I found the hash point again driving towards the second hole, and properly claimed it this time! After going around and about, I played through seven holes with horrible scores.

Hole Score
1 10
2 11
3 15
4 12
5 10
6 5
7 15 with 2 drops (damn wilderness hazards)

It was getting dark and I was exhausted by time I got to hole 8, so I called it quits, dropped by the hash point one last time to see if anyone popped up, and then headed home.
