Plans
With the hash in Amherst, a Suburb of Buffalo, and in a park, I contacted a few friends who like to go for hikes and might be interested in joining me for a walk through the park on this expedition. Three of my friends are interested and will be joining me and the dogs around 13:00. We are currently having a bit of a snow storm through the whole area and I'm not expecting many people in the park tomorrow. Also, this could be an actual Hash collision with two options. The hash being in a field and with no leaves on the trees, I'm hopeful to be able to see the closer geocache area by the creek. If that isn't visible, there is another that looks to be across the field further away, but with less potential obstructions. I'll also have to try to remember to build a snowman. Haven't done that one yet, but we'll have to see if the quality of the snow is good enough.
Expedition
Met my friends at the appropriate time, but I was a bit concerned when I pulled in the parking lot. Like a lot of the suburbs, they stupidly try to keep dogs out. I mean, where else do you want to walk your dog than in a park? Anyway, I wasn't too worried about it, as there weren't that many people around to bother. Plus, this was a small village park connecting to the State Park which doesn't have the same regulations.
We started walking toward the hash and along a high Ellicott Creek. It looked like a nice area to walk around in the Summer when the foliage is on the trees. Getting to the open fields, we made our way easily to the hash and zeroed right in. Before I was ready to take a picture, I did see all 0's on the GPS but I wasn't able to get it back despite doing a short GPS dance. We all got in on the picture and then we headed over to the further Geocache. The closer one looked to be on a temporary island as the high creek was cutting off access. (I didn't really consider trying to make a snowman as there wasn't a whole lot of snow and it didn't seem like it would really hold up either.)
Getting to the Geocache area, we located the cache for a full Hash Collision event. I forgot to take a picture of the geocache area from the hash, but I did get one looking back from the cache. After that, we walked around the park a little bit more before walking back to the bridge by the hash and tried to get to the other geocache. Unfortunately, the earlier assessment was correct, but Dane, having higher waterproof boots crossed and tried to find it anyway. With Simon and Myka 'helping' they didn't locate anything more than a broken bottle and a key-chain.
Adventures had and a successful expedition, we headed back to the cars and on our separate ways.
