Expedition

I've been taking the dogs here lately as it's still close to where I live and provides for a longer hike. The big loop takes me about an hour and a half and I can get back in time to watch the local (American) football team be mediocre for another season. Today's game was going to be against one of the best teams so I wasn't too worried about getting back in time for it today.

As I was leaving, my brother called and we chatted a while about my parents' visit and his Winging Ceremony. He finished his flight training for the Marines and got his wings. He's excited to be moving out of Texas and we were all happy to hear he's going to North Carolina where it's a lot closer to visit. He could have ended up in San Diego which would also be nice to visit, but I can drive down to NC, stopping at my friend's place in Maryland.

Anyway, we got going around noon and walked our normal loop, but in one section of woods, I came across a deer carcass. I think coyotes got to it because all that was left was a little fur on the lower back legs and the bones were picked clean. When we got to the section of trail that was closest to the hash, we cut off the trail and headed down the hill toward the road. Getting within 100 meters or so, I had to be careful because the land had a short but sharp drop-off into a swampy area. I got as close as I could on firm ground and then used some fallen trees to cross the worst of the soggy areas. There was a creek that ran through too and on the other side, along with the hash, was again firm ground. A short GPS dance brought a close reading and I got my pictures. Being so close to the road, I decided to walk on the road to the corner and pick up the trail there rather than walk back through the woods. I knew exactly where I was as this hash landed very close to the hash I completed back in January.

We were late getting back for the game, but that was ok as the Bills again lost to the Patriots in a bad way.

An added bonus, this looks to be a Last Man Standing Expedition so that ribbon has been added.
