Expedition
Somewhere on the other side of Germany live two people who I haven't seen in a while: my parents. They are now finally getting vaccinated and I have a week off, so I decided to break the pandemic isolation by visiting them. After two rather taxing day+night shifts at work I packed my car and started the journey. As usual, I followed the autobahn A4 for a long while. At the Bad Hersfeld exit, exactly where I had returned to the autobahn during my last trip home (2020-11-03 50 9), I left the autobahn. I drove along the B27 federal road until Rothenkirchen, then took a smaller road via Grossenmoor to Schlotzau, where I parked the car at the edge of the village. I walked along a field track until I reached the tiny forest with the hashpoint. The trees were all of the same height and trunk thickness and grew mostly in lines with less than a meter in between, so it is probably a tree plantation. Finding the spot took a bit of a hashdance but the GPS finally decided on one of the trees.
Scott and I took some pictures, then I left the forest by another side. For the way back to the car I crossed a meadow and then took a different field track. I drove to the next autobahn exit which led me to the A7, which I followed south until I was past Fulda. Then I changed to the A66 until Hanau and the A3 until the Frankfurt South Interchange where I finally reached the A5 which would have started shortly past Bad Hersfeld along the usual route.
In total, I walked 1.4 km and the car detour was about 17 km compared to the shortest route.
