Today's hash was significant because since I started with this wonderful activity, I had always eyed the 42, -73 graticule right above me as ripe for the picking, but I had never been able to make the trek up there...until now. The drive up the Taconic State Parkway led me to the border of Dutchess and Columbia Counties, but what was interesting was that while I parked my car in Columbia, my walk to the geohash took me over the border back into Dutchess. I parked on the side of the road next to an empty corn field and walked around the edge of the field to a path that led through the woods to a smaller corn field. I proceeded to veer right into a thin patch of woods that separated the field from the backyard of a beautiful old farm house. Not only was the house charming, but the yard was enormous and it led right up to the idyllic Roeliff Jansen Kill. The owners had chairs set up by the riverside and kayaks at the ready to explore with... I was really jealous.

Anywho, the actual spot was right along a small stream that wove around these people's property into the river. My phone wasn't cooperative in telling me where the exact spot was, but I made sure to circle around the general area a couple times to make sure I stepped on the spot. I didn't want to linger too long considering that I was fairly close to their property, but I'd love to go back to the Roeliff Jansen Kill to explore it, especially now that my parents have kayaks. For today, I would have to be satisfied with successfully reaching my fourth graticule. I wasn't satisfied when I found four ticks on me after it was over, but none of them were embedded. That's the price you pay for glory.
