Expedition

LuxMundi

This is my first hash attempt after several months of lurking.

On my route home from work, so very easy to get close, but the actual spot was a bit more difficult.

This is an area of town where I will stand out as someone not supposed to be there, so I decided to go all out and wear a hard hat and safety vest, in the attempt to appear that I not only have a reason to snoop around the woods, but a very official one, in fact, and leave me alone.

I found a place to park and the local pharmaceutical salesmen eyed me warily as I hopped out of my truck. I nodded in their general direction, and tried to give an air of a bored worker who has to complete one more survey before it's "Miller time".

I soon found a hole in the cyclone fence and was bushwhacking toward the hash. Not shown on google maps is a nice creek, which I rockhopped and stayed dry. (It is on BING -- I won't do another expedition without checking theirs in the future).

I got within my iPhone's margin of error (about 150', yes, laugh all you GPSr owners), and high tailed it back to the truck.

As I was driving to this hash point I noticed that it looked amazingly similar to another Geohash that I did previously. It was. It was the same place that I did my first Police Geohash 2009-02-19. Today's Geohash is only yards from this geohash.

As I got out of my truck I also noticed the local pharmaceutical sales person. It didn't matter to me though. I walked up to the house and knocked on the door. Nobody was home.

I walked around to the back of the house to find a way into the woods. I was amazed to find a path already cut into the thick brush. Had people been back in these woods? As I made my way back into the thick woods, I noticed that it looked like a path had already been cut leading in the direction of the Geohash point. I wondered if the Woodveil guys had been back here. But, since I hadn't heard from them, I believed that it was just luck that there was a cut path.

I came upon the stream and noticed that there were foot prints on the other side. I jumped across the other side. I continued to walk through the thick brush and noticed that the path ended with about 30 feet to go. That wasn't close enough for me. There was another river bank that I had to jump to get closer. I found a place to jump the river and made it to 16 feet to go. That was close enough for me.

I took a few pictures and climbed my way out of the brush.

As I made it back to my truck, the local sales person was looking into my truck. I asked what he was doing and he told me that he thought that I was attempting to break into the house, even though it was clear that I was in the woods and not on the property of the house.

I gave him my name and he wrote down my license plate number and told me that he was going back to his house to call the cops. Since the last time that I made it to this neighborhood it only took about 2 minutes for the cops to show up, I waited around about 5 minutes. None showed.

I got in my truck and drove off.
