Location

Near Ammerbuch-Entringen, at the margin to the Schönbuch forest.

The hash is located in a nature reserve. It is, among other, forbidden to cycle off paved ways and use artificial light sources except of such on vehicles. Leaving ways is only forbidden between March 15th and "the second grass cutting", whenever that may be, but I assume that's over for this season.

Expedition

The choice between bicycle and public transport was decided by the bike itself, in that it showed a flat tire the evening before. Estimated walking time from the station of Entringen to the hash was about 25 minutes, and I wanted to be there at sunrise at 7:34.

I caught an early train and arrived at Entringen at 6:30. Bought breakfast at a local bakery, and started walking out. Around 7, I was in open landscape, making my way on tractor tracks in the very first light of dawn, listening to the singing of some early birds, the howling of a distant owl, and the luckily also distant roaring of the main road traffic. The track turned into open and wet meadow, it went upwards. In the end I had to turn into a small patch of forest, where I found the hash at 7:10.

Unpacked my breakfast and waited until slightly past sunrise. Well, technically there was a sunrise, but watching the sun actually rise would be spoiled by three different features alike: The hash was in a forest, on the western slope to a mountain, and, there were dense clouds, so even if there had been an unobscured view to the east, the sun wouldn't show itself. The only thing that actually changed was the level of missing brightness. It slowly and slightly changed from dark to dull.

When researching the location in advance, I wasn't sure whether it would be better to approach from below or above. For the way back, I tried the upper route. And after that, I knew it had been better from below. The approach from above was steep and went on almost unexistant paths through dense underbrush, being crazy even in daylight - it would have been impossible in darkness. Took a significant hike along the ridge, got caught by rain and reached the Pfäffingen shortly before 9.

And once again, I got very wet on the way back, so there was all the inconvenience of the Drowned Rat achievement without earning the achievement...
