Started at 14:30 from work and drove to the address active geohasher pointed out. Meanwhile the drizzle became stronger … very nice. I arrived in the street, parked my car and tried to catch the right coordinates within my mobile phone … without success because the numbers were jumping around all the time. Additionally I tried to ring at No 6 because my GPS tool taught me my aiming point is probably IN the garage. But nobody was opening. So I tried the best picture I could get and drove back to work.

Afterwards an additional look at Google Maps told me instead, the wanted hashpoint should be one house north?!? Maybe I go back there one day with a proper GPS unit and figure the right point out!!!

Expedition

Part 1

Started at 14:30 from work and drove to the address "active geohasher" pointed out. Meanwhile the drizzle became stronger … very nice. I arrived in the street, parked my car and tried to find the right coordinates within my mobile phone … without success because the numbers were jumping around all the time - very unnerving. I tried to ring at No 6 because my GPS tool taught me that the point I'm aiming for is probably IN the garage. But nobody was opening. So I gave up and drove back to work.

Afterwards an additional look at Google Maps told me that the hashpoint should be one house further to the north-east?!? Maybe I go back there one day with a proper GPS unit and figure out the right point!!!

So I declare this expedition as failed due to my improper GPS equipment.

Part 2

It kept bothering me ... so I decided to leave work half an hour earlier than normal on tuesdays and drove to the hashpoint again. And I found the error ... my navigation system was the bug. It brought me (again) to the #6b. But this time I skipped the #6a (where I was searching the coordinates last time) and went straight to the #6. I rang at the door and a nice and friendly woman opened the door. She gave me permission and I went to her driveway ... and to the right coordinates!!!!

Expedition - succeeded!!

What did I learn?

Never trust your satnav without a good check to the paper roadmap ... and ... a technical system is just as intelligent as its user!!
