Expedition

We met early at Hamburg central station and got on the regional train. Through a specialty of Hamburg's fare system, it was very cheap for us to get first class tickets, but on small regional trains, the first class is virtually the same as the rest of the train, but provides a little more quiet. seamus_d was studying, and we thoroughly confused a young father and his kid with our talk about the intricacies of high-energy particle physics.

Arriving in Fahrenkrug, show and awe took hold of us as we realized just how small and rural this village is. We'd barely walked for more than five minutes from the train station when we reached the end of Fahrenkrug. Rounding the field where the hash lay, we walked for a bit until we found an opening in the bank alongside the road. The field was frozen over in what had been one of the coldest nights in weeks.

Still, upon finding the hash, which was easy in the open field, we had no choice but to sit down and enjoy a little picnic! seamus_d had make lovely sandwiches and even brought self-made cookies. Along with some curious multivitamin drink sort of vegetation we found, we had a jolly little snack.

Walking back across the field, we pondered the utter loneliness and remoteness of the place. Back at the train station, we shivered at how it must be to actually live there, and gratefully got back on the train to Hamburg. The ride back was marred by a bunch of very chatty ladies on the train uttering some ugly racist opinions about foreign citizens. mtu couldn't help but loudly remark his depreciation of their assholery, upsetting them and making them even louder in their yapping. For the rest of the ride, we decided to sit in the second class to avoid their company and returned as two safe, sound and happy geohashers.
