Luckily I'd grabbed my camera and GPS in the morning before riding to work. I was already planning to take the long coastal route home via Cape Patterson to Inverloch from the desal plant where I work near Wonthaggi, and when the geohash location came out showing it to be within striking distance of none other than the lovely seaside town of Cape Patterson I knew it had to be.

Sadly, though, I'd misread the signs and the trip was a failure. Pulling up at the fence after dark I locked my bike to a tree and peered over the barbed wire/electric fence into the paddock of the hash. There was a farmhouse nearby with its lights on, so I turned off my lights so as not to be detected (although I was still wearing my high-vis shirt). I could hear some distant animal snorting sounds, but didn't pay much attention.

Jumping over the fence into the paddock I stumbled over weeds and cow pats towards the hash 200m away.

Suddenly, I heard louder snorting sounds. I looked up to find a large group of black shapes running towards me from the direction of the hash...!

Abandon hash! I ran as fast as I could towards the fence, clambering over it and ignoring the electricity and barbed wire (imparting a long scratch to my left leg) to safety. Once I was back at my bike I could hear (but not, annoyingly, see) the animals right against the fence. At the time I assumed they were bulls, but thinking about it now I reckon they were just horses - I'm not exactly a country boy.

Deciding not to try for the hash again I hobbled home, taking the scenic coastal route to Inverloch. I later turned up to a small dinner party and regaled the guests with my adventures.

Here is the Google Maps route I took.
