RocketMac - Turning 40 today

Plans

My original plan (as of earlier this week) was to leave the house around 3am and arrive at my origin hash at the time of my birth, 0616, and if the daily hash was reachable, stop by that in my graticule on my way home.

When Friday arrived, I realized the daily hashpoint in my graticule was reachable and plotted my course. The more I thought about it, the less I wanted to spend six hours driving on my birthday, so I shortened the plans to just the daily hashpoint in my graticule.

Expedition

Since the purpose of this expedition was one of self-reflection (it happens when you get old(er)) and to have cake at the time of my birth, I left the house at 0500 and was on my way. After spending a few minutes trying to decide on a music playlist appropriate for contemplation, I settled for the "Dubstep (genre)" playlist on Pandora to keep me awake.

The trip, while dark, was uneventful. Pulling up to the side of the road adjacent to the hashpoint, I saw a small problem. The farmland was fenced. I had arrived about half an hour earlier than needed, so some of that was spent debating hopping the fence or squeezing through with the cake and candle to the hashpoint. Despite the late (or early) hour several cars came by while I was there, and I just knew that the one that came by while I was trespassing would be a police car, so I decided against it.

I've been working on a self-improvement plan I have named "Chad 3.0" and one of those steps includes defining my core values which I assigned myself for this trip. So while I waited, I worked on these.

When the time arrived, I snapped a couple of pictures, lit a candle on my cake and enjoyed a private dawn celebration.

Once again, I pondered hopping the fence but at that moment yet another car came by which I took as a sign and moved along.
