Location

A field or meadow in Gundelfingen. About 500 m from the local train station and extremely close to all sorts of civilization, not far from the ruins of Zähringen castle.

Participants

  • Hijackal lives so close he feels he must go there. Given the very weekendish date and ridiculously short distance, baked goods are not entirely unlikely.
  • Frizzy
  • Crox and Elisa

Plans

  • On 2016-01-01, Hijackal found that this hash is amazingly close to home, leaving basically no excuse not to go. He may try to convince Frizzy to come along. Hijackal's long-standing plan to teach someone to juggle at a hash are still unfulfilled.
  • Crox and Elisa will first visit the Antikythera exhibition in Basel, before going to the hashpoint. ETA 14:30.

Expedition

Hijackal and Frizzy

Around two o'clock we left the climbing hall in Freiburg aiming for the parking space at the football fields and the Obermattenbad in Gundelfingen. Close to the coordinates we found a bench and waited there for the other two hashers Crox and Elisa. After a while we saw the other two hashers walking across the football field heading for our bench. Unfortunately the football field was fenced with no second exit and they had to return and walk all the way around. We just kept waiting on our bench. And after a while the other two hashers came around the corner. After the meet-up we walked the last meters to the coordinates, located on a muddy meadow, together. A stupid grin, some cereal bars and a short juggling workshop later, we went back to the parking space and said goodbye to the other two hashers. They left for the train station (long journey home, see other story) and we took our car (very short journey home, only 5 minutes).

Yay, first Geohash after a break of around 2,5 years :)

Crox and Elisa

Crox wanted a geohhash in Germany, and Elisa was up for an excursion on the last day off school, so plans were hastily made on Saturday evening and a train ticket from Basel to Gundelfingen was purchased (fortunately it's 2016 so these can be bought online and printed at home).

The last bits of planning were made after the train had left Lausanne, talking to Hijackal on IRC.

In Basel, we enjoyed the Antikythera exhibition, then ate some picnic we'd brought with us and took the train to Freiburg, then to Gundelfingen.

From there it was only a relatively short walk to the hash, with the only obstacle being unexpected closed gates *everywhere* preventing us from crossing the sports field as initially planned... We hence finally met Frizzy and Hijackal slightly later than initially planned after having seen them from far away through the fences.

On our way to Gundelfingen, we passed 3 cities founded by the Zähringen: Fribourg,
... Bern,
... and Freiburg.
