Virgin success on my Indonesian cycle tour.

Location

10kms to the east of Sumbawa Besar, a city on the Indonesian island of Sumbawa.

Expedition

I've recently begun a month-long cycle tour of the Indonesian islands between Bali and East Timor. Today, I woke up in a guesthouse on the side of Gunung Rinjani on Lombok and began a long day riding over the pass, back down to the coast, taking the ferry across to the island of Sumbawa, and finishing my 135km day in the city of Sumbawa Besar.

Now, usually I check the geohashes every day. But today I for some reason waited until it was dark and raining to have a look. It turned out I'd missed one, next to my Rinjani route. But the next graticule across was totally doable. Only 8.4kms from my destination. Crap. I was looking forward to a relaxing, dry evening after my long ride.

Taking an hour to find an available and cheap hotel, I immediately took off hash-wise. Sadly, Google couldn't keep up and kept positioning me in the ocean or some crap, but I got there in the end. A quiet, rural road next to a farm.

I took many and varied photos, some of which are below, and headed back. Lots of kids exclaimed on the weirdness of seeing a white, bike-riding guy in the middle of the night. A few fireflies lit my return.

I celebrated with a chicken-rice dish and an ice cream avocado drink on the way home to my gross hotel.

I later did another geohash on this Indonesian cycle tour, this time in Flores: 2016-03-31 -8 121.

Hash achieved at 8:40pm.

Hash-distance: 20kms from/to hotel, 155kms for the day.
