Expedition

I hadn't done any sport in some time, so when this hash came out, I cancelled my plans for Thursday and instead settled on cycling the 15 km through the countryside to Hartenholm as exercise. I had a digital University meeting at 13:00, so I planned to take off at 10:30 to have some left after my excursion. I eventually set off after 11:00 (had to get my shoes and jacket first), for the first time in sports clothes. I figured the road signs would always lead me on the shortest way to the next town, but I was mistaken – halfway there, the road signs to Struvenhütten in Kattendorf marked the way via Hüttblek and not the shorter northern route, causing me to take a 3 km detour and screwing my time plans.

When I arrived at the hashpoint, which lay on a huge meadow at the end of a small path, I found it the perfect location: no obstacles, no houses, no one watching, just a big empty space and the sounds of nature. I made my way across the meadow, found the coordinates 180 m straight ahead, then took photos, marvelled at the quietness, ate a banana and walked back. I managed not to take a wrong turn on my way home, but didn't have time to shower as I arrived shortly before 1 pm after cycling 33.3 km (though for technical difficulties, I couldn't access the meeting for 20 minutes). My farthest bike-only expedition to date!
