Expedition

I saw that this hash was located on a golf course and was reachable, so I had to get it. I took the train to Bad Bramstedt Kurhaus and was hoping to catch the train back 28 minutes later. But already in the nearby forest, I struggled to find the right path, because Google Maps did not have them all marked, so I had to turn around three times with my bike as the paths kept veering off. I eventually made it to the golf course after 2.7 km, though unfortunately I had to climb over a gate to get there. The course was not fenced off from the (private) path though. At this point, I already had to hurry, because I had only about five minutes for the hash to get the train in time. I carefully looked onto the fairway, and, alas, saw people on the next hole. So I waited for them to clear off, and braced myself to run the last 40 m when they did. I wanted to take my camera out my bag with which I’d planned to film and take photos, but to my shock, it wasn’t there!

I must have lost it on the way, even though I had carefully secured the bag on my carrier! I cursed inwardly, but now there was no point in hurrying anymore, because I would’t make the train anyway. Shortly thereafter, the people disappeared from my view and I cautiously made my way onto the grass. Because I’d lost the camera, my phone had to do, but as I hastily searched for the spot and took pictures (sadly didn’t have time to take a screenshot of the coordinates because it takes ages on my phone), I saw the golf course workers I’d spotted earlier, about 200 m away. I quickly got out the golf ball I’d brought and tossed it to the correct spot to get the Golf geohash achievement (I’m not quite sure why this counts, but I clearly fulfilled both requirements). Unfortunately, we did not have a club at home, but I brought folding rule so I could at least putt the ball to the correct spot. I saw the workers making their way over to me in their cart, so I quickly made off.

But to get back to my bike, I had to walk past the workers, who had stopped on the way, and I would be in full sight on the path. I hid and waited for them to leave, but they didn’t, so I just confidently walked past and got ready to explain my situation. Thankfully, I was not approached. A few minutes later, I found my camera lying on the path, still fully operational (I expected to have lost it in the woods where I’d cycled over roots and even a fallen trunk). I checked the train times and found out I’d be home about 10 minutes earlier if I just cycled back, so I rode the 17.5 km in a little under 50 minutes while listening to my audiobook.
