Expedition

Note: Pedalpusher is writing up this expedition for J (my girlfriend). J was visiting me the previous day to go hiking and we discussed going to the Buffalo Hash down in Allegany. I saw this hash looked very reachable and accessible but didn't want to drive all the way to North Tonawanda, especially since we would be driving to Allegany as well (I live in the middle so these are in opposite directions). However, J sounded interested in going to the hash in my place. While she was over, I helped her set up a GPS app on her phone (I thought we had a HashDroid version for Apple, but I guess not), entered the coordinates in, and told her how to use it once she was close.

In the morning, before she was on her way to my house, she texted and informed me of a minor disaster that took place in her apartment. Apparently, she accidentally set her microwave to heat up a breakfast scone for 60 minutes instead of 60 seconds. At least it was only on 50% power or she might have had a fire. Instead (and very fortunately), she just had to deal with a very blackened and heavily smoking scone. I told her to take her time and not worry about going to this hash especially since she also planned to run a few errands on the way to my place. She spent some extra time cleaning up and airing out her apartment, but shortly after, I got a call and some texts with pictures. She made it!

She said when she pulled in, it looked a little weird and empty (no one is really going out on the water and boats are stored here for the winter), but there were no signs prohibiting access. She said after she drove by the open security fence, she just kept hoping no one would stop her and ask what she was doing. She was able to stop in the car at the hash, but didn't have a close enough reading. She ended up parking and walking back to the hash area where she inadvertently discovered our GPS dance as she wanted to get and absolute minimal distance for her first solo hash. She called me to make sure she took all the necessary pictures and wasn't sure about a 2 foot reading. I assured her that was an exceptional distance for any Circle of Uncertainty. She was a little nervous about the cameras, but we had a good laugh as I said we've all been in that situation before and at worst, the person reviewing the footage will just be perplexed as to what just happened.

J then ran some errands on the way to my place where we then loaded up the dogs and drove to Allegany State Park for Part 2 of J's adventure.

Second Note: I am calling this a Puppet Master - While J does enjoy coming with me on expeditions (and has on multiple), she very much does NOT consider herself a Geohasher and would not be doing this on her own without me or my suggestion to go in my place.
